I'm pretty excited about this week!  I feel like it's screaming 'home-made pizza".  Here's an idea of what you can expect:

-Beets, Golden
-Blackberries
-Cilantro (this I may not be able to get, but I am trying, its great on pizza!)
-Cucumber, Field (for our cucumber lovers)
-Kale, Black (for our kale lovers)
-Onions, Yellow
-Bell Peppers, Green
-Potatoes, Purple
-Tomatoes, Beefsteak

How did you guys like those figs? They are falling off the trees as we speak.  I can probably talk Naty into another dozen ;)

Farm collective cost breakdown

Hey folks!

I've been meaning to do this for awhile now. I wanted to talk about price. The idea behind a farm collective is to support local, organic farms, keep our money in the community and SAVE MONEY.

A 10lbs case of local organic blueberries goes for $100 on SPUD. They are currently on sale on their website for $69. Our regular price is $39 - delivered.

As for this week? This is what a full member share ($30) would cost you if you went out and bought it at Thriftys:

Organic Celery: $5
Organic Chives: $2
Organic Cucumber: $1.70
Organic Kale: $3
Organic Potatoes: $5
Organic Shallots: $5
Organic Pattypan Squash: $4.40
Organic Blueberries: $9
Organic Corn: $4.70

Total: $39.80

That's a 33% savings you get for buying local through a collective.

Why buy organic? Great question. I will answer that a little later on.

And on another note, you were all surprised with fresh figs this week!  While I was out picking your delicious kale before deliveries, farmer Naty let me taste one, I couldn't help myself.  I hope everyone enjoyed them!

Monday slipped away from me without me even noticing it was Monday!  My apologies!  Here's what's coming your way tomorrow:

Arugula
Blueberries
Celery
Chives
Corn
Cucumber
Kale
Potatoes
Shallots
Squash

Expect a recipe for Pattypan Squash!

Shallots - much like an onion, but slightly milder.  Shallots are nice when you don't want the chunkiness of an onion, they will often blend into a food.  Use them in the pattypan recipe coming your way!

Hello again!

Now is a good time to remind everyone that we are on Facebook!

https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Honest-to-Goodness-Farm-Company/1588840274701337?ref=aymt_homepage_panel

"Like" us and we'll like you back.  You'll also get adorable pictures of birds nests and babies.

Here's what you can expect this week:

Blueberries
Cucumber
Green Cabbage
Daikon Radish
Pineapple Mint (you heard me right)
Arugula
Rhubarb
Red Potatoes
Eggplant

I was out picking the last of the Tayberries for one of our restaurants last week and I found this little guy :)  To anyone that used to visit Naty & Gary's farm store you would remember these guys from the beets.  I guess they decided to pack and move to the berries this year.
